Pioneering Broadband Expansion in Alabama with $6.3 Million Grant
We are excited to announce that JMF Solutions has been awarded a $6.3 million grant as part of Governor Kay Ivey’s initiative to expand broadband access in Alabama. This grant, a portion of a larger $188 million funding, is dedicated to supporting middle-mile broadband projects across the state. JMF Solutions will play a crucial role in this initiative, overseeing four key projects spanning over 1,169 miles, covering various counties, and positively impacting 24 anchor institutions. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to enhancing internet connectivity, especially in rural areas, and is a part of the broader strategy to improve Alabama’s high-speed internet infrastructure.
“When Governor Ivey and ADECA announced the original grants for middle mile broadband networks, we knew it was the right fit for JMF’s https://ixp.farm. We are building completely open source, open access, highly resilient multi-100gb backbone networks between the poorest areas in our State. Our fully open source platform combines network, compute, and storage, with a BGP based IXP Mesh in every location, with all services available to any member. No more needing a datacenter for resilient cloud and network services. Ixp.farm utilizes our local rural hospitals and universities as node locations for our network. All carriers, service providers, gov agencies, and enterprises are invited to join the IXP, peer locally, monetize their services, and be a part of a real internet backbone. Our goal – To build the most reliable, resilient, cost effective, and fastest network found in any state, bringing Alabama from #41 to #1!”
